There are more than enough opportunities for all of us (everybody reading this and everybody you know, too) to join in God's holy work of healing the world.
Over the years of serving around the world, many people have told me they don't believe they could do anything to share God's love because they don't have gifts or there is nothing for them to do.
There are more than enough opportunities for all of us to join in God's holy work of healing the world.
Recently I spoke with some friends about a passage in the Gospel of Luke in which Jesus says to his followers, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few."
Sometimes this passage is reflected upon from a point of scarcity - reflected in an attitude of , "We're so overwhelmed, we need more help, there aren't enough people around to help." OR, "Well, we're not sure where to start or what to do or if there is anything for us to do..."
Yet my friends helped bring a refreshing perspective to this passage from a point of Abundance. Jesus didn't tell the disciples this message to overwhelm them and make them feel inadequate. Rather, Jesus tells the disciples this as an encouragement - there is plenty or work, there are plenty of opportunities - just get out there and start trying and start loving people.
I am reminded of a kid in an ice cream shop who is told, "Have at it. Enjoy!"
All of us are in need of experiencing God's love.
Who are people around you everyday - work, school, store, bus stop, food pantry...
There are more than enough people to love.
"Have at it. Enjoy!"
